In “Platform” Houellebecq examines the absurdity of human existence through a careful analysis of the marketing strategy of mid-market club-style French tourist resorts. At this point, the houellebecw realizes that the novel is in fact his suicide note.

She’s very successful in her career as a low-ranking executive in a travel agency. The protagonist experiences a certain enlightenment, which is somewhat different than Meursault’s. However, she has a secret. In his early forties, Michel Renault skims through his days with as little human contact as possible. Pero n Lo siento, pero a mi Michel Houellebecq no me convence. Initially, the name “Venus clubs”—an allusion to the Villa Venus clubs dreamed of by Eric Veen in Vladimir Nabokov’s classic Ada or Ardor —is suggested, but is rejected as being too houelleecq.
Perhaps this is just a lovely fable. O, and I like the violence.
I wasn’t happy, but I valued happiness and continued to aspire to it. In most circumstances of my life, I have had about as much freedom as a vacuum cleaner. Or not, of course. These are fascinating parameters and, no doubt, would ruffle many feathers. We get it; women are stupid, worthless whores. They need money, hohellebecq need sex. Its various opinions, while sometimes maddening, are lucid and forceful, with a daring and fuck-you cynicism that’s bracing but never extreme enough to let you dismiss them out of hand.
I admire how French intellectuals can look at the same fundamental issues of the human condition from so many different angles. Filling in a form as a government officer to subsidise an artist exhibition is described and experienced in exactly the same way as the same guy visiting a Thai prostitute as a tourist. I think the reason why Houellebecq’s characters don’t feel sympathetic is that, whereas usually a character would feel remorse or regret about ;lateforme dark sides, Houellebecq’s characters feel absolutely nothing.
Want to Read saving…. Or they could be lying. There are sex clubs. Other books in this series. What happens next is something that even himself hardly believe, it changes his life and brings him in front of unprecedented situations and emotions.
Too inhibited to address the reader directly, Houellebecq employs a series of ready-made literary styles: Houellebecq can write, and he doesn’t shy away from anything here; much of the books provocation is actually plateforrme thought.
